We are an engineering firm in Ottawa providing fenestration  water testing services

Who We Provide Fenestration Water Testing Services To

Capacity Engineering provides certified fenestration water testing for residential, commercial, and high-rise buildings across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. Using both CSA A440 and ASTM E1105 testing methodologies, our team evaluates how windows, doors, curtain walls, and glazing systems perform under controlled water exposure and pressure differentials.

Whether diagnosing a suspected leak, validating the performance of newly installed fenestrations, or meeting warranty/commissioning requirements, we deliver accurate, code-compliant results you can rely on.

Residential

We provide fenestration water testing to residential clients across Ottawa and Eastern Ontario

Commercial

Our team provides commercial buildings across Ottawa with world-class fenestration testing

High-Rises

Our engineers help high-rises meet warranty/commissioning requirements with our fenestration water testing

What Is Fenestration Water Testing

Fenestration water testing involves applying water to windows, doors, or glazing systems while simultaneously applying air pressure to determine whether water penetrates beyond the interior plane.

We perform testing in accordance with:

- CSA A440.4 – In-field testing of windows, doors, and skylights

- ASTM E1105 – Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls

This controlled testing helps identify failures in:

- Gaskets and seals

- Installation details

- Flashing

- Curtain wall connections

- Manufacturing defects

- Building movement or aging components

Why Do Clients Choose Us For Fenestration Testing?

Industry Leadership & Standard Development

Our Engineers have contributed directly to the development of the new CSA A440 in-field fenestration testing standard. With our Principal Engineer co-chairing the Fenestration Canada technical committee, we remain at the forefront of national best practices.

5+ Years of Dedicated Field Testing Experience

For more than five years, our team has performed fenestration water testing on hundreds of units across residential towers, commercial properties, heritage retrofits, and custom builds.

Recognized Expertise in the Industry

Our research and field methodology were featured at Windoor 2022, where our team presented advancements in in-field fenestration testing practices.

Accurate, Repeatable, and Non-Destructive Testing

We use calibrated spray racks, manometers, and air pressure systems to ensure:

- Code-compliant test pressures

- Repeatable results

- Fully documented testing protocols

- HD photo and video documentation

Our Fenestration Testing Process

1. Site Review & Preparation

We assess the building envelope, select representative test locations, verify access, and plan the testing sequence to minimize disruption to occupants.

2. Equipment Setup

We install:

- CSA/ASTM compliant spray racks

- Air pressure chambers

- Air tightness measurement devices

- Monitoring equipment for interior inspections

3. Test Execution

We apply calibrated water flow while inducing positive or negative pressure differentials. Our team carefully observes all glazing interfaces from the building interior.

4. Documentation & Reporting

After testing, we provide:

- Pass/fail results

- Leak tracing and root-cause findings

- Photo/video evidence

- Recommendations for repair or remediation

- A sealed engineering report (if required)

Why Accurate Testing Matters

Water penetration is one of the most costly building-envelope issues. Early detection helps prevent:

- Mold and moisture accumulation

- Interior finish damage

- Deterioration of structural components

- Warranty disputes

- Insurance complications

- Occupant comfort issues

Reliable testing protects your building’s performance and long-term value.
