Growth Continues at Capacity Engineering

New Team Members, New Capabilities, and Continued Momentum

At Capacity Engineering, growth has never simply been about numbers. It has always been about building the right team, expanding our capabilities thoughtfully, and continuing to provide the level of service, responsiveness, and technical excellence that our clients have come to expect from us.

As our workload, project diversity, and client base continue to expand, we are excited to announce the addition of five new team members to the CEL family. These additions represent not only growth in personnel, but also continued investment in the future of our firm, our services, and the industries we support.

From structural engineering and building science to architectural design and technical drafting, these new hires strengthen multiple areas of our organization and help position us for the next stage of Capacity Engineering’s evolution.

Continuing to Invest in Young Engineering Talent

One of the things that has always mattered deeply to our firm is mentorship and the development of future professionals. Since our earliest days, CEL has invested heavily in co-op students, interns, and young professionals entering the engineering industry. Seeing those individuals grow, succeed, and return to continue their careers with us is something we are extremely proud of.

We are therefore very pleased to welcome back both David Little and Rylan Charron following successful co-op terms with the firm.

David recently graduated from Carleton University’s Civil Engineering program and joins the team as a Structural Engineering Intern. During his co-op placement, David demonstrated a strong technical foundation, professionalism, and a willingness to tackle challenges head-on. We are excited to have him continuing his professional journey with us.

Rylan also returns to CEL as a Structural Engineering Intern after completing his co-op term with the firm. Having recently graduated from Carleton Civil Engineering, Rylan will also be pursuing his Master of Engineering this fall while continuing to contribute to the team. His dedication to technical growth and continuous learning aligns strongly with the culture we strive to maintain at Capacity Engineering.

We are equally excited to welcome Gabe Karam to the team as a Structural Engineering Intern. Gabe joins CEL following completion of his M.ASc. at Carleton University, bringing with him strong academic experience and research-based insight that will further strengthen our engineering capabilities.

Expanding Our Architectural and Building Science Services

As many of our clients already know, Capacity Engineering has continued to expand well beyond traditional structural engineering services over the past several years. Our growth in building science, restoration engineering, project management, forensic work, and multidisciplinary coordination has created exciting opportunities to broaden our

service offerings even further.

To support this continued evolution, we are proud to welcome Cory Dubeau as our new Architectural & Building Science Manager. Cory will be leading the development of our new architectural design team, with an initial focus on small buildings, retrofit projects, renovations, and integrated multidisciplinary solutions. His experience and leadership represent an exciting step forward for the firm as we continue building a more comprehensive in-house design capability.

There is much more to come on this front, and we look forward to sharing additional details in the near future. We are also pleased to welcome Jordan Lidgett as an Architectural Technician. Jordan brings more than five years of hands-on experience from the home building industry, adding valuable practical construction knowledge and technical drafting expertise to the team. His background provides a unique perspective that complements both our engineering and  architectural operations exceptionally well.

Growth Built on Trust

The continued growth of Capacity Engineering would not be possible without the trust and support of our clients, partners, industry colleagues, and project collaborators.

From homeowners and condominium corporations to contractors, architects, developers, property managers, and public-sector organizations, we remain extremely grateful for the relationships that have allowed our firm to continue expanding year after year.

Our commitment remains unchanged:

  • Deliver practical and technically sound solutions.
  • Maintain responsiveness and strong communication.
  • Continue investing in people, training, and innovation.
  • Provide value-driven engineering and consulting services across all project sizes.

As we continue growing, we remain focused on preserving the culture and principles that built CEL from the beginning: professionalism, technical excellence, mentorship, adaptability, and client service.

To our clients, colleagues, and partners — thank you for continuing to place your trust in our team.

And to David, Rylan, Gabe, Cory, and Jordan:

Welcome to Capacity Engineering. We are excited for what lies ahead.

The Original Professional Engineering Crack Gauge Business Card: A 15-Year Legacy of Innovation At CEL innovation has always been at the heart of what we do. Fifteen years ago, we pioneered a unique idea: integrating a practical crack gauge into the design of our business cards. This wasn’t just a gimmick, but a thoughtful addition and a solution born from our early planning to make our business cards more than just contact information. From our call to action "How may we help you?" run up the right hand side, to the use of a bright yellow in order to be able to leave cards in place as tell-tales to save clients costs, we wanted to set ourselves apart as the pragmatic problem solvers we set out to be. We envisioned these cards as tools that engineers, contractors, and property-interested parties could carry in their wallets, ready to assist them in seeking our structural advice on the spot. The Origin Story Back in 2010, our team brainstormed ways to stand out in the competitive engineering industry. We wanted our business cards to reflect our commitment to practical, problem-solving innovation. The crack gauge was the perfect fit—a compact, functional tool that embodied our expertise in structural analysis and our dedication to providing value beyond expectations. After months of design and testing, we launched the first crack gauge business card, a concept that was entirely novel at the time. A Global Influence Over the past decade and a half, our crack gauge business cards have gained recognition worldwide. From our staff attending the ICCRRR International Conference on Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting in Leipzig Germany through to attending Restoration, Seismic, and Engineering conferences in Japan, Italy, France, New Zealand, and the USA, our little idea has travelled far and wide. Companies in Germany, France, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia have adopted similar designs, inspired by our original idea. We’re flattered by the global reach of our concept, but we’re also proud to set the record straight: Capacity Engineering was, to the best of our knowledge, the first to bring this idea to life. The Most Recent Imitation Recently, we’ve noticed a local Canadian competitor incorporating crack gauges into their business cards, positioning themselves as innovative. While imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, we believe it’s important to celebrate the true origin of this idea; a backyard and a beer, 2010, with the birth of CEL. For 15 years, our crack gauge business cards have been a hallmark of our brand, trusted by clients and imitated by other professionals, worldwide. This latest instance marks the first time a Canadian firm has followed suit, joining a line of international engineering firms inspired by our work. Why It Matters Our crack gauge business card is more than a marketing tool, but is in fact a testament to our commitment to innovation, functionality, simple solutions, economic results, and quality that maximises value. There is often little need for expensive monitoring and data collection. It can be as simple as a fractional cost of a dollar, and a free giveaway, conveniently placed on the back of the business card. Call to action? No; it is a call to simplification, and a way to offer clients more value out of our services. It is a reminder that true innovation isn’t just about creating something new; it’s about creating something that lasts, solves problems, and inspires others. We’re proud to have led the way and will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry. Thank you to our clients, partners, and community for supporting us over the years. Here’s to 15 more years of innovation, and beyond. Reach out if you have a need; we're more than happy to help.
